Healthy Eats: How to Eat More Protein and Less Added Sugar at Lunch
By #WSWWellness at Wall Street Wraps
The best bite of our Little Italy Wrap from Wall Street Wraps is the one where a salty olive meets a strip of sweet roasted pepper. For a high-protein lunch, order yours with grilled chicken breast and ask for the Italian dressing on the side. Take a bite before you dip. The roasted onions come through, and you can decide how much dressing the next bite needs.

Start with the drink
On a hot afternoon in Pampanga, it’s easy to finish a cold drink before you’ve even unwrapped lunch. A 355 mL can of regular soda can contain about ten teaspoons of added sugar. If you usually have one with your food, switching to a detox or protein shake takes those spoonfuls out of lunch in one go.
Eating less sugar helps protect your teeth and can help prevent unwanted weight gain. The World Health Organization recommends keeping free sugars below 10% of daily calories. That includes sugar added to food or drinks, plus the sugars in honey, syrups and fruit juice. The natural sugar in a slice of fresh mango falls outside that limit, and the mango gives you fiber.
Keep the beans in your burrito bowl
Pick grilled chicken for our Downtown Burrito Bowl and the beans give you a second source of protein. Your body uses that protein to maintain muscle. The beans also add fiber, which helps keep digestion regular and can help you feel full longer.
There’s a good reason to keep the fresh tomatoes in there, too. Their vitamin C helps your body absorb iron from the beans. Add the homemade salsa and cilantro, and you’ve got a bowl worth ordering for the flavor alone.
A chicken salad for a bigger appetite
At #WSW, our Protein Bomb Salad comes with 200 grams of chicken breast, crisp romaine, Parmesan and bacon bits. To keep added sugar low, choose your favorite fresh vegetables and skip sweet dressings. The Parmesan gives the greens plenty of seasoning.
For something cold after a workout, we also make a Cucumber Lemon Protein Shake with no added sugar.
